Hockey vs Pretoria Boys High School
From the start it was clear that the Pretoria pitch was a fantastic surface to play hockey on and the water-based turf was a completely new experience for many of the boys. The pitch provided an unfamiliar bounce which proved tricky for the team to anticipate and this was partly to blame for yet another lackluster start. During this early period Warwick found themselves a goal down to an unlucky deflection which Tom Greensall could do nothing about. Warwick struggled to get the ball out of defence and were forced to cope with constant attacks from the Pretoria Boys but the defence held strong and Warwick went into the break down by one goal to nil.
With New found confidence after the half time break, Warwick began to attack with some force and the movement in midfield allowed the ball to be played out of defence with ease. Edwin Waters and George Tedstone provided good link up play to the forwards and Warwick come close to scoring with several attacks. Going into the last ten minutes still trailing by one goal, Warwick over committed and were caught on the break by Pretoria twice in quick succession. Pretoria took their chances and had a three goal cushion. Right up to the final whistle the team continued to work hard but the effort could not be converted to goals. The final score was Warwick 0 – Pretoria 3.
